I remember Ida`s first fishing trip with me, April 5th last year. After I bought here a reel with line and a rod, and gave here some wobblers I had lying around in the garage, we went down the local river called Nitelva. After about 1 hour with fishing (no complaining) she had a fish on. She reeled the pike all the way up to the top ring and lifted the pike out from the water while she screamed and yelled. This was her first PB. Just look at that smile on her face 😀

After that we had more trips out in the fishing areas here in Lillestrøm, where she got a new PB of about 7 kg.

Later that summer we traveled to new areas with new friends we got within the pike fishing environment in Norway. She managed to raise her PB twice on one trip, from 7 to 8.1 to 8.2 kg. And in the late fall she lost a huge pig in Øyern but the next day landed a 8,4 kg pike, that was her PB, until today!

Today we decided to go to a lake about 1,5-2 hours driving south, or was it north? from Lillestrøm (depending on the traffic and on how heavy you are on the pedal). The plan on this lake was to troll with 4 rods and using x2 Mike the pike and x2 Platypus. Ida got to choose witch side and witch lures first. Platypus in the color «Pike» and Mike the pike in natural colors was her choice. I chose Platypus in stamped roach and Mike the pike in Metal Pike. We also brought our spinnrods, just in case. We then got the boat in the lake, and off we went. After about 12-15 min drive we reached the trollingspot, we just had to maneuver around a small reef where it gets a bit shallow. Just when we passed the reef i see a big banana on the sonar, at about 4 m depth. Ida wanted to try spinfish around the banana, and so we did. She went in the bag and opened a brand new Platypus in the color Pike, as she found it easier doing it that way than take the other one off the rod (she hates the staylock- loop).
She snaps it on and starts to fish. Ill let the pictures speak for itself.

When the fish started to get ready for netting i grabbed the net and got ready. When the fish was at the surface close to the boat i heard
«GET HIM NOW» in the deepest most manly voice (i’m sure it was demonic) i’ve ever heard. When the fish was safely in the net she started to jump around screaming and cheering. After the first rush she started to get «the shake» and had to sit down and take some breathes before she started the de-hook the pike, measure and weigh it. The length was 126 cm, and the weight was 12680 gr after the net was subtracted.
I know Ida wanted to break the 10 kg limit really really bad, and for me to be able to be there with here when she did was indescribable. I am so happy and proud of Ida, she really deserved this! And the fact that this was the only fish we caught today doesn’t matter, the day was perfect!

Dag and Ida
